Description: Thousands of fish are killed in the waters near Chicago. Biologists began scooping up the dead fish this morning after 2,000 gallons of poison were dumped in a canal near Lockport. Officials hope the measure will prevent the spread of Asian carp. The fish have been spreading up the Mississippi River since escaping from fish farms in 1993. The fear is that the carp will soon invade the great lakes - and destroy the eco-system. Officials expect to have about 200,000 pounds of dead fish removed to landfills by Sunday night.
