Description: More than 71,000 customers in Virginia and West Virginia are without power following the massive winter storm last weekend and a mix of ice, rain and high winds on Friday. A spokesman with Appalachian Power says the company was down to about 44,000 outages from the last weekend's snow storm, but numbers have gone back up due to Friday's weather. Appalachian Power reported 28,493 outages in West Virginia and 33,930 outages in Virginia on Friday afternoon. In addition, Allegheny Energy reported 8,713 customers in West Virginia were without power. Last weekend's storm dumped more than a foot of snow across the two states, with some areas seeing around 2 feet.
