Description: Seven people were burned to death and over 30 others injured as a CNG-run picnic bus caught fire following a road accident at Manurtek in the district town Friday morning. The deceased were identified as Milon Barua, 50, Happy Barua, 55, Rupom Barua, 35, Shova Barua, 50, and Badi Barua, 35. The two others would not be identified. Witnesses said the bus, carrying a picnic party from Jobra village in Hathazari upazila of Chittagong fell into a 60-feet roadside ditch and caught fire as its CNG gas cylinder exploded at about 11:30 am, leaving five people dead on the spot. On information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire. Later, army and police members with the help of local people rescued the injured from inside the accident-ridden bus. The injured were admitted to various hospitals. Six of the injured were taken to Chittaging Medical College Hospital in critical condition. DC Mizanur Rahman, acting police super Nihar Ranjan Hawlader and district council member Kazi Mujibur Rahman visited the injured in the hospital. Twelve people, including some students of Chittagong College, were killed in a bus accident at the same place on February 12 last year.
