Description: Mayor of Madrid, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, said that the action of the fire service avoided a tragedy in the capital on Thursday night. They had been called to a building in the Bravo Murillo area of the city after residents saw cracks and heard groans from their building. They ordered the immediate evacuation of seven families who were out of the block at 9,20pm on Thursday night, and at 10pm the whole building collapsed. There were no injuries. First indications are that the collapse was caused by the recent rains which had affected the cement of the structure.
