Description:

High winds and severe weather have caused several accidents and two rollovers on Arizona's interstate system. An accident on Interstate 10's eastbound lane near Picacho Peak has backed up traffic as of 3:45 p.m. Thursday, a spokesman for the Department of Public Safety said. Another collision in the same area except in the westbound lane has occurred but is not blocking traffic, officials said. A third accident -- this time involving a turned over semi-- has occurred at mile post 210 on Interstate 10. That's near Eloy. The westbound lanes are blocked. High winds forced another semi to rollover on Interstate 8 about 40 miles east of Yuma. Lanes are blocked in that area as a result. Interstate 17 in the Phoenix area is experiencing restrictions, as well. Officials will open the southbound lanes of Interstate 17 until 6 p.m. to allow traffic coming from Flagstaff to clear out. After 6 p.m. Thursday, I-17 and I-40 will be closed indefinitely, officials said, although they hope to reopen the roads on by noon on Friday.
