2010-01-22 04:40:08 - Power Outage - USA EDIS CODE: PW-20100122-24654-USA Date & Time: 2010-01-22 04:40:08 [UTC] Area: USA, State of Arizona, Phoenix and Flagstaff areas, Event exciting : Thunderstorm Damage level: Moderate (Level 2) Affected person(s): 5-10000 Not confirmed information! Description: Arizona Public Service is reporting thousands of power outages in the Phoenix and Flagstaff areas due to Thursday's winter storm. APS says they have 5,000 customers without electricity in the Phoenix area and 2,000 to 3,000 customers in the Flagstaff area. APS spokesman Damon Gross says there is no immediate timetable for when customers will get their power back on. He says the outages are largely the result of wind knocking out power lines. Gross says the concern now is that the ground is so saturated by rain that utility poles could become unearthed and high winds might blow down some trees. APS pre-positioned crews around Arizona in areas where outages during storms are typical, but it's unsafe to send out crews during times of high wind.
