Event: Earthquake
Location: Taiwan Capital City area Taipei

Number of Injured: 4 person(s)

Situation:

An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale hit Taiwan late Saturday, shaking tall buildings and causing car accidents, leaving at least 4 people injured. The quake struck at 9:02 pm (1302 GMT), with its epicenter 25 kilometres off Hualien on the east coast, 46 kilometres under the sea, the Seismological Observation Centre said. The quake, the strongest this year, was felt all across Taiwan, with tall buildings swaying and people running out into the street. The quake shattered window glass in a hotel in Hualien, and caused the island's high-speed railway to suspend operation. In Taipei, the quake caused several car accidents and caused a rooftop water tank to tumble to the ground, injuring four people, cable TV channel TVBS said.
