2009-12-18 06:18:27 - Snow Storm - United Kingdom EDIS CODE: SS-20091218-24207-GBR Date & Time: 2009-12-18 06:18:27 [UTC] Area: United Kingdom, England, England-wide, Damage level: Moderate (Level 2) Not confirmed information! Description: Heavy snowfalls are hitting eastern and northern parts of the country, with some areas facing blizzard conditions. The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings for London, the South East and the East of England, the North East, Yorkshire and Humber and the East Midlands. Around four inches of snow has fallen in parts of East Anglia, making driving treacherous, and in Cambridgeshire, high winds has caused snowdrifts to form. In London, adverse weather conditions are causing severe delays on the Amersham branch of the Metropolitan Line. Weather experts say the freeze has been caused by east to north-easterly winds dragging cold air straight out of the Arctic and Scandinavia. Temperatures are expected to fall below 0C (32F) across much of the UK and could drop to minus 5C (23F) in Wales and south-west England and as low as minus 9C (15.8F) in Scotland. Safety warnings have been issued as preparations were being made for the snowfall.
