Situation:

EasyJet’s flights from Gatwick has been cancelled and the Air Malta flight to Heathrow was delayed by several hours as severe weather wreaks havoc in the UK. Easyjet cancelled about 50 flights from Gatwick, Stansted and Luton airports but its flight from Newcastle was not affected. Gatwick airport was closed from 0015 until 0730 GMT but has now reopened, while Luton airport was shut until 1000h GMT. Heathrow and Stansted airports stayed open, but flights have been delayed. The Met Office in the UK issued severe snow warnings for London, the East Midlands and Yorkshire and Humber. Up to 20cm has already fallen in counties including Kent, Essex and Sussex and more is to come on Friday. The disruption will affect a number of Maltese families as schools break up and students begin their trek back to Malta for Christmas.
