Situation:

A mudslide on the famous Inca trail to Machu Picchu killed an Argentinian tourist and a Peruvian guide in Cusco, where the authorities are still evacuating dozens of tourists by helicopter. The victim, identified as Lucila Ramballo, 20 years old, died in a spot called Wiñay Huayna, and another three people were injured, when a mudslide fell on her. Tourist guide Washington Huaraya died in the Inca Trail sector known as Inti Punku, reports RadioProgramas del Peru. All the roads to Machu Picchu ruins have been closed for three days, due to the intense rains that have been causing many mudslides along them. These deaths increase the official death toll to 11, reported by the same radio station. Teams from the National Institute of Culture and the local police are trying to evacuate victims and tourists as well. Reportedly, there is still 671 tourist along the Inca Trail; also 704 porters (locally known as guayruros) and 125 tourist guides. They entered the route between Jan. 22 and 24.
