2010-01-24 05:09:52 - Vehicle Accident - Canada EDIS CODE: VI-20100124-24679-CAN Date & Time: 2010-01-24 05:09:52 [UTC] Area: Canada, Province of Ontario, En route from Lindsay to Smiths Falls, Not confirmed information! Description: An air rescue team was searching for a missing single-engine plane west of Ottawa Saturday night. Capt. Wayne Sinker of the Canadian Air Force out of Trenton said a C-130 Hercules and Griffon Helicopter were conducting the search. Sinker said the missing plane left Lindsay airport Saturday afternoon and lost contact with two other similar planes piloted by civilians about midway to Smiths Falls. “It’s unaccounted for. We don’t know what happened. We haven’t found it yet, but it’s just not arrived at it’s destination. All contact has been lost to it,” said Sinker of the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre. “This is still the early stages of it. We’re still searching for the aircraft,” he said. He wouldn’t say what type of plane was missing or if it was piloted by a man or a woman. One concerned woman called the Ontario Provincial Police to complain of a plane circling over her home. She was concerned it was going to crash into her home or barn because it kept getting lower. Police said that aircraft was part of the search team. “It’s going to be noisy out there for a lot people tonight with these aircrafts pounding around,” said Sinker. The two other pilots made their way to Smiths Falls, then on to Carp airport said Sinker. A man who answered the phone at Carp airport said he didn’t know anything about the missing plane. Representatives from Lindsay and Smiths Falls airports couldn’t be reached.
