Event: Cold Wave
Location: Mexico MultiStates Northern States

Number of Deads: 9 person(s)

Situation:

A brutal cold wave is expected to lock freezing temperatures across Mexico over the next 36 hours, the national meteorological authorities said Sunday. Low temperatures, along with the Cold Front 22, will mainly affect the states in the north, center and east, bringing rain and snow at the mountain areas, specially in Pico de Orizaba, Cofre the Perote, Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl Mountains, according to the Mexican National Meteorological Service (SMN). The SMN said temperatures below 5 degrees Celsius had been reported in 20 states of Mexico. It also said temperatures would plummet to 3 degrees Celsius below zero in Ajusco Volcano, south of Mexico City. The government of Mexico City, which has issued an alert for the low temperatures, has strengthened public shelters to take more homeless people. The local authorities of the states of San Luis Potosi, Sonora, Tamaulipas, Tlaxcala, Veracruz and Zacatecas said that they are considering suspending school for the next three days. The local authorities of the southeastern state of Chiapas said that school will be suspended on Monday and Tuesday in five regions of the state due to the cold weather. The SMN statistics showed that the lowest temperature registered in Mexico was 11 degrees Celsius below zero in Temosachic Municipality in the northern state of Chihuahua.
