Although the Saturday afternoon temblor scared residents, the region fared relatively well given the magnitude of the quake. A mall in Eureka will likely remain closed for a few days so crews can clean up broken glass and water damage from activated sprinklers. But injuries were minor, according to hospital officials. Transportation authorities say there were no accidents or significant bridge damage attributed to the quake. Humboldt County spokesman Phil Smith-Hanes says the region's agencies and residents are used to living in earthquake country, and they were prepared and knew how to respond.
