Description:

An influx of box jellyfish has forced officials to close off Hanauma Bay to the public. In less than an hour, more than 40 box jellyfish were found on the beach at the bay Sunday morning. Countless more were spotted floating just offshore. The situation will be reassessed Monday morning and a decision will be made to keep Hanauma Bay closed or open it back up to the public. Box jellyfish warnings continue to be posted along Waikiki beach and Ala Moana beach as well. Officials said there are still a large number of box jellyfish being spotted but not as much as Saturday, when more than 500 box jellyfish were found on Waikiki Beach and more than fifty people were treated for stings. Signs will continue to be posted until further notice.
