Description: Firefighters are still on the scene of a fire that burned 1600 acres today near Burrton. The fire, which began as a controlled burn in a field, got out of control at about 2:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of North Sandhill Road, according to Harvey County dispatcher Brody Flavin. At 8 p.m., after firefighters from at least 10 area towns responded, the fire was under control but crews remained on scene to monitor “hot spots,” Flavin said. There was a concern at one point that homes or outbuildings might be affected, but that never happened, according to Flavin. No injuries were reported. Crews from Burrton, Inman, Hutchinson, Buhler, Halstead, Newton, Hesston, Walton, Moundridge and Goessel responded, he said.
