Description:

Eighty-eight people were injured, 16 of them seriously, when the Putco bus they were travelling in overturned on Moloto road, north of Pretoria, on Friday evening, police said. The bus was transporting passengers from Pretoria to Thembelethu Village near KwaMhlanga, Mpumalanga. Cullinan police spokesman Johannes Jafta said the incident took place between Kameeldrift and Wagensdrift around 5pm. “We do not yet know the cause of the accident but it seemed the driver lost control of the vehicle. It overturned once and landed on the side of the road. “The road was closed to traffic for close to an hour while the police and paramedics worked on the scene,” he said. The injured passengers were taken to various hospitals around Tshwane. Jafta said the driver also sustained minor injuries. “A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened for investigation. No arrests have been made,” Jafta said.
