Description:

A 230-metre long Chinese coal carrier has run aground near Great Keppel Island off the Queensland coast. The Queensland Government says the ship left the Port of Gladstone carrying around 65,000 tonnes of coal bound for China, before running aground just after 5:00pm on Saturday. It says the ship's captain is reporting a hole in the ship's lower hull, though they have not yet found an oil leak. An attempt to refloat the ship may be made at high tide, after 12:00pm. The Australian Maritime Authority Service is organising a surveyor to go on board to confirm the safety and condition of the ship.
