Description:

Five people have been killed and 13 others were injured after three minibuses collided on the R61 between Aberdeen and Beaufort West in the Eastern Cape, police said on Monday. Inspector Wena Theron said the tyre burst on one of the minibuses, leading to the accident. The three women and two men killed were among 15 passengers in that vehicle, which was travelling from Cape Town to Aberdeen. The other ten passengers were injured and taken to nearby hospitals in Aberdeen and Graaff-Reinett. The second minibus travelling from Cape Town to the Transkei was carrying 23 passengers, including two babies. Three adults in this vehicle were injured and were taken to a hospital in Aberdeen. The third minibus travelling from Aberdeen to Cape Town was transporting 13 people who all escaped without injury. All three drivers escaped with minor injuries. Theron said police were investigating a case of culpable homicide.
