Stonington's first selectman says the coastal Connecticut town has been largely cut off from its neighbors by flooding, with only two major routes still open. Ed Haberek Jr. says two of the three bridges are closed that connect Stonington and Rhode Island, with only Interstate 95 and Route 78 still open. A flooded bridge on Route 1 also is expected to stay closed for at least another day. Stonington and several southeastern Connecticut communities have been hit hard by flooding after up to 10 inches of rain fell. Homes and businesses have been evacuated, and the Connecticut National Guard has been called out. No storm-related deaths have been reported.
