Situation Update No. 2 Posted:2010-03-27, 22:46:07 [UTC] Ref.no.: LS-20100327-25484-PER Situation Update No. 2 On 2010-03-30 at 03:31:00 [UTC] Event: Landslide Location: Peru Departmento de Carabaya Puno region Number of Deads: 10 person(s) Situation: The death toll increases: the landslides that took place last weekend in several sectors of the mining area of Mucumayo, in Carabaya, Puno region, have left ten casualties and there may be more bodies yet to rescue, said today the Mayor of Carabaya, Nancy Rosell. Rosell told the press that this information was disclosed by a group of prosecutors who is currently at the emergency area in order to witness the rescue of the bodies, which identities are already known. The bodies will be sent to Santa Teresa sector once the weather allows the operation of helicopters, according to information given by the Police. The victims werw local residents from Ayapata, Ituata, Corani and Coasa, in Carabaya; and also from Asillo, in Azángaro, and Pucará, in Lampa.
