Description:

HEAVY snow and blizzards in high winds are making driving conditions difficult and leading to school closures on the high ground of Wales this morning, according to forecasters. Drivers are being urged to take care on the A4244, A487 and the B4547 roads around Llandeiniolen near Llanberis in North Wales. And the A542 Horseshoe Pass in Llangollen is partially blocked and just passable due to snow and a broken down lorry. Gwaun Gynfu school, Deiniolen and Carmel Primary School, near Caernarfon, have closed due to the adverse weather. Snow has also been reported in upland areas above Wrexham - Coedpoeth, Bwlchgwyn, Llandegla. And forecasters are warning that parts of the Brecon Beacons in Mid Wales are also likely to see blizzard conditions today. In Carmarthenshire, West Wales, motorists using the A4069 Brynaman Mountain Road are urged to approach with care. Both Irish Ferries and Stenaline have cancelled their high-speed sea crossings, as gales are expected to reach up to 50mph. The Met Office said there was a moderate risk of severe weather for today, with 5cm to 10cm of snow expected to fall in upland Wales and a risk of drifting.
