2010-03-02 07:00:56 - Heat Wave - Australia EDIS CODE: HT-20100302-25166-AUS Date & Time: 2010-03-02 07:00:56 [UTC] Area: Australia, State of Western Australia, , Pert Not confirmed information! Description: Perth has officially baked in its longest spell of hot weather since the turn of the century. Bureau of Meteorology statistics show the city has had seven consecutive days of temperatures greater than 35 degrees, equalling the run in 1999-2000. The record heat run is shared between February 1975 and the same month in 1988, when there were 10 days of 35-degree-plus temperatures in a row. A heatwave in Perth is defined as three consecutive days of temperatures greater than 35 degrees. The heat has been accompanied by a big dry, with just 0.2mm of rain falling so far this year. That is the second driest start to a year on record, only topped by 1975, when no rainfall fell in the same period. However, some relief is expected from tomorrow, when the maximum temperature is expected to "only" hit 30 degrees, then falling to 26 degrees by Friday. Another 35-degree day is predicted for Monday.
