Description:

Heavy rainfall has caused a flash flood, destroying two bridges, damaging local electricity facilities and isolating around 1,500 residents of Sungai Janiah village in Solok regency, West Sumatra. “Some residents have taken refuge at an elementary school building in Gunung Talang,” provincial disaster mitigation coordinator Ade Edward said. Heavy rain fell throughout the area Tuesday causing two rivers, namely the Batang Ampuan and Batang Lurah Nago rivers, to overflow late in the afternoon. Ade said local administrations had send aid to the village and were planning to construct temporary bridges Wednesday.
