Description:

Two South Korean Air Force jet fighters are missing after they were last seen flying inland during training, the Defence Ministry said on Tuesday. A search for the two F-5 jets is ongoing after they went missing about 20 km (12.43 miles) west of the eastern coastal city of Gangneung, a defence official said. No further details were available. North Korea, which the South is still technically at war with under a truce that ended the 1950-53 Korean War, is not believed to be involved in the incident, the official said. South Korea's Yonhap news agency said three crew members were missing after the jets crashed in mountainous terrain just after noon local time (0300 GMT) on Tuesday. The supersonic F-5 fighter, developed by Northrop Grumman and first flown in the early 1960s, remains in service in air forces around the world, including those of the United States, Brazil and Thailand.
